Four rules gate the application. Four more don't.
Class year
You're a college freshman graduating in 2030. Training runs twelve months starting your sophomore year, which puts you ready for internship recruiting before junior year.
GPA
At least a 3.2. Between 3.0 and 3.19, you'll write a 500-word essay. Below 3.0 we can't consider you. The Investment Banking Academy requires a 3.5, and there is no essay that changes that. We use your unweighted GPA on a 4.0 scale.
Citizenship
You must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. This includes DACA participants. We can't sponsor work permits.
Who the program serves
Greenwood Project prepares Black and Latino students for careers in financial services, and is open to all who meet the criteria, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or other demographic identity.
Location doesn't matter
The program is virtual and Scholars apply from across the country.
Your major doesn't disqualify you
Each Academy lists typical majors, but what matters is how you think.
It costs nothing
No tuition, no fees. We also provide travel, housing, and professional wardrobe support to Scholars in need during your internship.
Four-year institutions only
You must be enrolled at a four-year institution. We're not currently reviewing applications from students enrolled in community colleges.

One page, PDF. Recent and relevant experience.
Your unofficial high school transcript
Required for every applicant. Because you apply as a first-year student, this is what we review first. Request it from your high school's main office, or download an unofficial copy from your student portal while you still have access. Start this early.It's the most common thing that holds an application up.
Your unofficial college transcript
Once your fall semester or quarter grades post, include them; they confirm your eligibility. If you apply in an early round before grades are out, you don't need it yet; we'll reach out, or you can email it to recruiting@greenwoodproject.org once you have it.
A recommender's email
You submit their address and we send them a short survey. You don't need to chase down a letter. Your recommender must be someone who has worked with you in an academic or internship setting: a counselor, career advisor, teacher, professor, or mentor. No friends or family.
A 500-word essay, only if your GPA is 3.0 to 3.19
Only if your GPA is between 3.0 and 3.19, and only for the Fintech and Sales & Relationship Management Academies. Investment Banking holds a strict 3.5 minimum with no essay path.
Nine rounds
Apply when you're ready. Decisions land the second Tuesday, monthly.
We've replaced application waves with rolling admissions. The application opens Friday, September 4, 2026, and you can apply whenever you're ready. Applications close Monday, May 31, 2027. Decisions release on the second Tuesday of every month, with the final round on June 8, 2027.
You apply once, and you receive one decision. If you don't complete a step of the selection process inside its window, your application is withdrawn for the cycle. You cannot reapply, and you won't be placed on the waitlist.
You're reviewed in the next round after you finish. Once you've completed every step on time, your application goes into the next monthly decision round. No open-ended waiting. Every date is below.
Complete every step by Tuesday, November 10, 2026 and you'll be reviewed in our priority round, our fastest decision. There is no benefit to waiting.

The 2029 Cohort will be 325 Scholars, enrolled across these nine rounds. Applications close Monday, May 31, 2027, and the final decisions release June 8, 2027. Both timed steps of the selection process have a two-day window, so submit with room to finish them before the close.

Our recruiting team reviews every application.
A video interview
Conducted through Braintrust's AI platform. Expect a mix of behavioral and technical questions. This is the largest single component of your score. Prepare for it accordingly.
An aptitude assessment
Timed. It measures key skills, traits, and competencies, and it is not used to eliminate you on its own. We look at your whole application.
A decision
Once you've completed every step, you'll be reviewed in the next monthly round and notified by email.
We review every candidate holistically, but your candidacy is scored across three components.
Our use of AI in hiring
Every decision involves a human reviewer.
Why an AI interview? Consistency. Every candidate gets the same questions and the same scoring, instead of a different experience depending on who happened to be available that day.
Greenwood Project uses artificial intelligence to help evaluate candidate applications, including the video interview and elements of application review.
AI does not run our recruitment process on its own. Every decision involves a human reviewer, and no candidate is admitted or declined by an automated system alone.

Use the STAR method for behavioral questions
Situation, task, action, result. Structure your stories before the interview, not during it.
Dress professionally, and only press Ready when you are
The moment you press Ready, the interview starts recording. Some candidates begin and then change clothes or gather notes. It's already on camera. We value professionalism: don't start until you're dressed professionally and ready to interview.
Answer authentically: typing or searching disqualifies you
The interview is recorded, so we can tell when answers aren't your own. If you haven't done something, or you don't know, be honest and tell us what you'd do instead. Any typing or searching during the interview automatically removes you from the selection process.

We run virtual informational sessions over Microsoft Teams. An hour, including live Q&A, with someone from the recruiting team. Bring questions: GPA, transcripts, time commitment, what happens if you miss a deadline. Nothing is off limits.
