Get your application ready!

It takes time to prepare a great application for the Greenwood Project. You will need to have the following things ready to go before starting the application:

  • A one-page resume in Greenwood Project format.

  • A 500-word (max) essay.

  • A video application.

  • A reference letter.

  • A transcript. (College only. Unofficial is okay.)

You should begin working on all of these elements well before the application deadline. It will take time to get these materials prepared.

Resume

 
  • Resumes should be one page and submitted in PDF format.

  • The resume must include your best email address, your cell phone number, and your home address with City, State, and Zip Code included.

  • The resume must also include your current school with year of graduation included.

  • You MUST use the Greenwood Project template to create a resume. Any resumes that are more than one page, that include graphics, or are not in our format will be automatically disqualified.

Essay

 
  • Your essay should be no more than 500 words.

  • Your name should be at the top of the essay page. You should submit your essay in .docx format NOT PDF.

You should answer the following question in your essay:

  • What impact would joining the Greenwood Project have on you, your family, or your community?

Reference Letter

  • You should request a reference letter from a professor, advisor, mentor, teacher or employer.

  • You should ask the reference to send their letter to you directly in .docx or PDF format.

  • You will submit this document on the application.

Video

 
  • You need to submit a 2-minute video interview.

  • You will record this video directly into the application. You should prepare and practice your 2-minute response, as the video will stop recording after 2-minutes. You may want to have notes or a simple script ready before you record.

  • You can re-record this as many times as you like before submitting. The video will stop recording after 2-minutes.

In the video, answer the following questions:

  • Tell us about yourself, your family, and your community. 

  • If you become a Greenwood Project scholar, you will learn a lot about finance, business, and money. Why do you want to learn about these things and what do you hope to do with the knowledge you will gain?

Transcript

 
  • You must submit a transcript to verify your GPA.

  • Unofficial transcripts are okay.

  • High school students do not need to submit a transcript.

For freshman in college who have not yet received your first grades: Please submit your final transcript from high school along with a screenshot detailing the classes you are taking this semester.

FAQ

  • What grades/ages are eligible to apply?

    • You can apply if you are currently enrolled in college. We accept applications from individuals no older than 24.

  • What if I’m enrolled in a community college?

    • We will look at applications from students who have been accepted into a 4-year college and plan to enroll in the following academic year.

  • What majors are allowed to apply for the college program?

    • We will consider applications from all majors. Our 4-week intensive is designed to prepare anyone for their internship placements.

  • What if my resume is two pages or more?

    • It’s too long. We will only consider applications with resumes that are one page.

  • Can I save my application and go back and finish later?

    • No. You will need to have all of your materials really to upload at one time.

  • What is the likelihood that I will get into the program?

    • We typically have a 30-40% acceptance rate for our college programs. While we accept applications from all college grade levels, our typical acceptances fall into these categories:

      • College freshman make up about 10% of our acceptances.

      • College sophomores make up about 40% of our acceptances.

      • College juniors make up about 40% of our acceptances.

  • When will I know if I’m accepted or not?

    • We utilize a rolling-application process. So, the sooner you apply, the sooner we will review your application, make an interview decision, and make a final decision on your application. We cannot give an exact date for final decisions. If you need to receive a decision by a certain deadline, we encourage you to apply very early so that you are among the first to receive a decision.

  • What does it mean if I’m put on the waitlist?

    • If you are a college student who is put on the waitlist, this means that we believe you are an outstanding candidate for the Greenwood Project, but we currently do not have an internship placement available for you. We cannot give an exact date that we will make final decisions about students who are placed on the waitlist. Sometimes, our waitlist can extend into May or June as more internship positions become available or accepted students drop out of the program.

  • Where does the program take place?

    • Downtown Chicago, IL. College students who live outside of Chicago will be housed in dorms. College students who live near downtown Chicago will commute each day, and Greenwood Project will cover public transportation costs.

  • Can I apply if I don’t live in Chicago?

    • For college students, YES. You will be housed in dorms in downtown Chicago, and Greenwood Project will cover all travel expenses to get you to and from Chicago.

  • Where do college students get placed for internships?

    • We have corporate partners all over the United States in cities like Chicago, New York, and Denver. Any costs associated with travel and housing will be covered by the Greenwood Project and/or our corporate partners.
